چکیده

The effects of monosomy of specific chromosomes on the fatty acid composition of maize embryos were studied. A novel technique was developed to obtain fatty acid profiles of single embryos without reducing the viability of the sampled kernels. Monosomic 2 embryos had significantly more oleic acid and significantly less linoleic acid than diploid control embryos. Since the conversion of oleic acid to linoleic acid is a single-enzyme-mediated reaction, we suggest that a gene involved in linoleic acid biosynthesis is located on chromosome 2. Additional consistent variations were found in other monosomic types. This study demonstrates that monosomic analysis can be used to study gene dosage effects at the biochemical level.

Comparative Analysis of Fatty Acid Composition of Yolk Lipids in Indigenous and Conventional Chicken Eggs

Eggs of the indigenous laying hens are preferred by consumers to those obtained from commercial breeds. The present study aimed to compare the fatty acid (FA) composition of yolk lipids of indigenous eggs (Indigenous; n = 20) and conventional eggs (Conventional; n = 20). Indigenous and conventional eggs were collected from Lori layer hens reared under free-range condition and an commercial farm...

Manipulating membrane Fatty Acid compositions of whole plants with tween-Fatty Acid esters.

This paper describes a method for manipulating plant membrane fatty acid compositions without altering growth temperature or other conditions. Tween-fatty acid esters carrying specific fatty acids were synthesized and applied to various organs of plants growing axenically in glass jars. Treated plants incorporated large amounts of exogenous fatty acids into all acylated membrane lipids detected...

Etioplast Development in Dark-grown Leaves of Zea mays L.

The ultrastructure of etioplasts and the acyl lipid and the fatty acid composition of sequential 2-centimeter sections cut from the base (youngest) to the top (oldest) of nonilluminated 5-day-old etiolated leaves of Zea mays L., and the acyl lipid and fatty acid composition of the etioplasts isolated from them have been investigated. There is a 2.5-fold increase in the size of the plastids from...

Characterization of two GL8 paralogs reveals that the 3-ketoacyl reductase component of fatty acid elongase is essential for maize (Zea mays L.) development.

Prior analyses established that the maize (Zea mays L.) gl8a gene encodes 3-ketoacyl reductase, a component of the fatty acid elongase required for the biosynthesis of very long chain fatty acids (VLCFAs). A paralogous gene, gl8b, has been identified that is 96% identical to gl8a. The gl8a and gl8b genes map to syntenic chromosomal regions, have similar, but not identical, expression patterns, ...

Seasonal variations of total lipids, fatty acid composition, of Nizimuddinia zanardini from the seashore of Chabahar

The Iran’s coastal marine algae have great potential in the fields of medicine, food and cosmetics which unfortunately, fewer have been studied. In the present study, Total lipid and fatty acid profile of brown algae, N. zanardini were measured in both cold and warm season. The total lipid content with 41.1±0.8 mg/g dry weight was high in February. In the present study, Fatty acid composition o...
